Govt rejects major parties demand for JS polls in October

Not possible because voter list is yet to be completed: Adviser Zillur

The government has rejected outsight the demand of two major parties Awami League and BNP for holding the parliamentary elections in the month of October.
"It is not possible to hold national polls within the month of October as the final voters' list is yet to be completed," said Commerce Adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman at a press conference after the dialogue between the government and Bangladesh Kallyan Party (BKP) held at Chief Adviser office on Wednesday.

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed led the government side while BKP Chairman Major General (Retd) Syed Mohammad Ibrahim led his party delegation.

"Except finalising the voters' list, all works relating to holding local-body and national elections have already been completed. At present, it is impossible to publish countrywide final voters list in the month of October. We will have to work more for finalising the voters' list. As per road map, the local-body polls will be held before general election," Zillur Rahman told newsmen.
He said now the caretaker government is thinking of bringing reform in the administration.
"On the basis of national consensus, we are trying to bring reform in the administration. If changes are not brought about in the administration, no initiative will bring good result," he said adding there is no alternative to decentralizing the administration to strengthen the local government.
"Considering the dense population at the country, the government is now thinking of bringing changes in the administration. Because, the country's administrative structure was formed when the population was 7.3 crore but the population stands at around 15 crore. So it is very difficult to manage these people with the same old administration," Zillur said.

To make the dialogue more meaningful, government will hold talks with the small group of people on July 27 at the hilly district of Khagrachari.

Talking to newsmen Major General Ibrahim said if the government fails to hold election as per roadmap, the country will fall into another critical situation.

"The government will not be able to face the critical situation. We are calling upon the government not to create any situation where army and common people will be placed face to face," Ibrahim said adding the government is loosing its image as it has totally failed to achieve people's trust. He asked the government to identify the war criminals before all elections.

হিমেলের চ্যালেঞ্জ

দর্শক মনে রাখবে, দর্শকদের হৃদয়ে দীর্ঘদিন থাকতে পারবো এরকম কাজই আমাকে বেশি টানে। নায়িকা হতে হবে এরকম ধ্যান-ধারণা নিয়ে অভিনয় করি না। আমি অভিনয় করতে চাই, ভাল ভাল গল্পনির্ভর নাটকে কাজ করতে চাই এবং অবশ্যই ভাল অভিনেত্রী হিসেবে নিজের একটা অবস্থান তৈরি করতে চাই। কথাগুলো বললেন এটিএন তারকা এবং টিভি অভিনেত্রী হিমেল।

তিনি আরও বলেন, যখন যে নাটকে অভিনয় করি সিরিয়াসভাবেই করি। অনেক যত্ন নিয়ে করি। আমার ভাবনায় কেবল অভিনীত চরিত্রটিই থাকে। যে জন্য হয়তো আমার চরিত্রটি একটু হলেও দর্শকদের দৃষ্টি কাড়ে। এ প্রসঙ্গে হিমেল আরও বলেন, সম্প্রতি এটিএন বাংলায় প্রচার শেষ হয়েছে আমার অভিনীত ধারাবাহিক নাটক অচিন পাখি । এই নাটকে চোরের বউয়ের ভূমিকায় অভিনয় করে ব্যাপক সাড়া পেয়েছি।

অনেক মানুষের প্রশংসাও শুনেছি। সত্যি বলতে ভাল লাগে এরকম ভিন্নধর্মী গল্পের নাটকে অভিনয় করতে। উল্লেখ্য, চলতি সময়ে হিমেল অভিনীত দীর্ঘ ধারাবাহিক নাটক ময়ূর বাহন চ্যানেল ওয়ানে প্রচার চলতি রয়েছে। নাটকটি নির্দেশনা দিয়েছেন রুলীন রহমান। হিমেল বলেন, ময়ূর বাহন-এ আমি যাত্রার নায়িকার ভূমিকায় অভিনয় করেছি।

এই চরিত্রটি একটু অন্য ধরনের। আমার জন্য খানিকটা চ্যালেঞ্জিংও। আমি বড় একটি চ্যালেঞ্জ হিসেবেই নিয়েছি এ চরিত্রটিকে। তারপরও ভেবেছি কাজটি করব। শেষ পর্যন্ত করেছি। আমার বিশ্বাস, অচিন পাখির মতো ময়ূর বাহনের আমার চরিত্রটিও দর্শকদের দৃষ্টি কাড়বে। উল্লেখ্য, প্রচার চলতি ময়ূর বাহন ছাড়াও হিমেল কাজ করছেন তিনটি নতুন ধারাবাহিকে।

এ প্রসঙ্গে তিনি বলেন, দিবেন্দু উদাসের পরিচালনায় ১৩ পর্বের একটি নাটকের শুটিং সম্প্রতি শেষ করেছি। নাটকের শুটিং সম্পন্ন হয়েছে সিলেটে। পাথর নামে ওই নাটকটিতে আমি উপজাতি মেয়ের ভূমিকায় অভিনয় করেছি। এই নাটকটিও গতানুগতিক ধারার বাইরে একেবারেই ভিন্নধারার গল্পের নাটক।

রুলীন রহমানের পরিচালনায় শূন্য মন্দিরে নামের একটি ধারাবাহিকে সম্প্রতি শুটিং করেছি। জুয়েল মাহমুদের নতুন একটি ধারাবাহিকে আগামী মাস থেকে শুটিং শুরু করবো। অভিনয়কে ঘিরে কি ধরনের স্বপ্ন নিয়ে এগোচ্ছেন- এমন প্রশ্নের জবাবে বলেন, প্রত্যেক মানুষেরই স্বপ্ন থাকে। আর স্বপ্ন নিয়েই মানুষ বেঁচে থাকে। আমিও অভিনয় নিয়ে স্বপ্ন দেখি। ভাল একজন অভিনেত্রী হবো আপাতত এটুকুই বলছি।

বাকিটুকু কাজ করেই প্রমাণ করতে চাই। নাটকের বাইরে চলচ্চিত্র এবং বিজ্ঞাপন নিয়ে ভাবনা? বললেন, কিছুদিন আগে রাঁধুনীর একটি বিজ্ঞাপনে মডেল হয়েছি। পছন্দ মতো পণ্যের বিজ্ঞাপন হলে কাজ করতে আপত্তি নেই। চলচ্চিত্র নিয়েও একই বক্তব্য আমার। যদি ব্যাটে-বলে মিলে, আমার অভিনয়ের সুযোগ থাকে তাহলে অবশ্যই চল

Protest for reducing budget allocation in cultural sector

The cultural activists of the country under the banner of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) will form a human chain at 5:00pm in front of the Shilpakala Academy in the city protesting against the reducing of allocation in cultural sector in the budget for 2008-09 Financial Year.

This was disclosed at a press conference organised by BGTF at Dhaka Reporters Unity yesterday.

M Hamid (Natyachakra Dhaka), Chairman of the Presidium Members, read out a written statement, while Jhuna Chowdhury (Natya Kendra Dhaka), Secretary General of BGTF, Muniruzzaman of Charushilpi Parishad, Selim Mahmud of Udichi and Sangeet Shamunnay Parishad, Habibullah Siraji, President of Jatiya Kabita Parishad, Ramendu Majumder, drama activist, Golam Kuddus, General Secretary of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, Asaduzzaman Noor, drama activist, Minu Haque, dance artiste, among others, spoke at the conference.

Speakers said the Government has been allocated Tk 122 crore for 2008-09 financial year in cultural sector, which is less than Tk 17 crore from previous year. The rate of this allocation is only 0.12 per cent of the total budget. In all district levels Shilpakala Academy, budget allocation is less than Tk 50,000 per year.

"From this allocation, we can say that the Government has very narrow mind for the development of cultural sector," said M Hamid.

"For this reason, we are going to form a human chain at 5:00pm on June 25 in front of the Shilpakala Academy to protest against budget allocation in the cultural sector. In all district levels, this programme will be held at the same time simultaneously to protest against the budget allocation in cultural sector," he said.
